An event celebrating Grand Canyon University's growth in Phoenix in 2017.

Grand Canyon University in Phoenix has gone back to being a nonprofit, thanks to approval from its accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission. The nonprofit purchased the campus and other assets from for-profit Grand Canyon Education for $875 million.

GCU has become a significant player in the online learning market, and this move back to nonprofit status could lead others in the sector to attempt the shift as well.

To learn more, The Show spoke with Paul Fain, a news editor at Inside Higher Ed.

Steve Goldstein was a host at KJZZ from 1997 to 2022.
