How Heroines In Young Adult Fiction Have Changed And Stayed The Same

Nancy Drew. Katniss Everdeen. Narnia’s Lucy Pevensie.

We all know some of these classic heroines in young adult literature. They’re strong, enterprising and brave. But according to Kelly Roberts, one of the most interesting trends in young adult literature today is that female protagonists are breaking down those barriers.

Roberts is an associate professor of English at Meredith College in North Carolina, and she’s recently written about how female protagonists in young adult fiction have changed and stayed the same.

Roberts says it’s not just about traditional heroines anymore.
