Arizona Governor Could Get More Power In Coconino County Judge Appointments

Voters will decide if Coconino County superior court judges are selected through a merit-based system that gives the governor, not voters, the final say.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports Coconino County supervisors have decided to put the issue on the November ballot.

Under the merit-based system, a committee appointed by the governor would nominate judge candidates, and the governor would make the final selection.

Voters would decide if judges should be retained at the end of their terms.
