If you found yourself cranking up the air conditioning last week, you weren’t the only one.
Kathleen Mascareñas with Salt River Project said last week, the electrical utility company hit its highest usage this year.
“SRP did reach an annual high of 6,816 megawatts," she said. "A good rule of thumb is one megawatt powers about 165 homes. So obviously, with the heat we have a lot more folks just looking for a break from that.”
She said the record for the highest usage was set in June 2017 when temperatures hit 119 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday marked the highest low temperature on record for that day at 94 degrees.
