Major League Baseball has indefinitely suspended its Papa Slam promotion with Papa John’s Pizza following a racial slur from its founder.
The Washington Nationals became the sixth team Friday to cut ties with the chain after founder and former chairman of the board John Schnatter used a racial epithet during a sensitivity training exercise.
Locally, the Arizona Diamondbacks said they will continue their relationship with the chain. "We are glad that at a national level, Papa John’s took swift action to deal with the issue," said team spokesman Josh Rawitch.
"From our team standpoint, our partnership is with local owner/operators in Phoenix and completely separate from the national company. That promotion will continue,” he said.
Schnatter stepped down as chairman following criticism after the incident.
