Former Arizona Rep. Don Shooter Seeking Release Of Documents In Sexual Harassment Investigation

Republican Don Shooter was expelled from the Arizona Legislature on Feb. 2, 2018.

An ousted state lawmaker may be able to get documents from a sexual harassment investigation that Arizona House Speaker J.D. Mesnard has refused to make public.

An attorney for former Rep. Don Shooter is demanding the attorney hired by Mesnard to investigate the harassment allegations, turn over his notes and tapes. Shooter’s attorney also wants access to the drafts used in preparing the report. That last piece could prove crucial as Shooter contends the final report omitted information that he believes would have prevented his ousting.

Shooter was expelled in April after the investigative report found "credible evidence'' that the Yuma lawmaker violated House policy against sexual harassment.

Shooter claims derogatory evidence about his accuser, Rep. Michell Ugenti Rita, was left out.

“It will also show that Speaker Mesnard modified the report and that the members were given only a partial and modified version of the report that was given," said Shooter.

Shooter is now running for state Senate this year. An aide to House Speaker Mesnard would not comment.
