Arizona Sen. Flake Critical Of President Trump's Behavior At NATO

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake is speaking out against President Donald Trump’s behavior at the NATO summit in Brussels this week.

Flake lambasted Trump for treating U.S. allies in purely transactional terms.

“Mr. President, if this is some kind of strategem, what good could possibly be achieved by heedlessly making friends into enemies and who exactly would benefit?” said Flake.

Although a fellow Republican, Flake has been a frequent critic of Trump’s.

“Mr. President, NATO is one of the greatest and most visionary investments our nation has ever made and anybody who says different is simply wrong. Any counter narrative about NATO is willfully destructive and does real and lasting damage to us and the world.”

NATO allies have committed to increase their defense spending in the alliance to 2 percent of their country’s gross domestic product by 2024.

French President Emmanuel Macron has said his country is sticking to that timetable.
