Jessica Lynch Named Honorary Chairwoman Of 2018 Fiesta Bowl Lori Piestewa National Native American Games

Former U.S. Army soldier Jessica Lynch who was wounded, captured and rescued in the Iraq War was in Scottsdale on Friday.

Lynch is the honorary chairwoman at the 2018 Fiesta Bowl Lori Piestewa National Native American Games that start Friday.

The games are named in honor of Piestewa, the first Native American woman killed in combat, and was Jessica Lynch’s best friend. Piestwa’s mother, Terry, said the games embody Lori’s spirit.

Gary Nees, consultant for the Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission, said the festival has become a way for the athletically-inclined Piestewa family to honor Lori.

The games run through Sunday and include basketball, volleyball, youth baseball and track and field. Over 3,000 athletes representing 50 tribes from across North America are expected to attend.
