KJZZ's general manager, Dr. Jim Paluzzi, is retiring. The announcement of his departure was made Tuesday.
Paluzzi has been under investigation since at least early May when he was placed on paid administrative leave. Paluzzi’s retirement was announced in an email to Rio Salado College staff on Tuesday afternoon.
A report with details of the investigation and a response from Paluzzi was released early Wednesday morning.
As the vice president of the Division of Public Service at Rio Salado College since 2009, Paluzzi has overseen the radio stations KJZZ and KBAQ, as well as the SPOT 127 youth media center and Sun Sounds of Arizona — a reading service for the visually impaired.
Bill Shedd has been serving as general manager on an interim basis and will continue until a permanent replacement is made.
Meanwhile associate general manager, Mark Moran, who was also under investigation, remains on leave pending the completion of that separate investigation.
KJZZ is licensed to the Maricopa County Community College District. Rio Salado is one of 10 colleges in the district.
