Monday’s storm snapped a power line outside St. Mary’s Food Bank on Thomas Road and 31st Avenue, leaving the area without power. As a result, spokesperson Jerry Brown says the Knight Distribution center is closed today, which usually distributes food for 500 to 800 families a day.
“We just want to let folks know to not use their precious resources to come down here, only to find out when they get off the bus or they get out of an Uber or cab that they can’t get any food today," said Brown.
St. Mary’s main warehouse is also without power. The organization is working to secure a generator to restore power to more than 30,000 square feet of freezers and coolers. The most perishable food was moved to refrigerated trucks outside of the facility.
