What's Next For DACA After Judge's Ruling?

On Friday, a judge ruled that the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) must continue.

The Obama administration program, that gives temporary protected status to unauthorized immigrants who were brought to the country as children, has been at the center of the immigration debate in Congress since the Trump administration began its attempts to dismantle it in 2017.

But the judge’s Friday decision comes with a caveat — Judge John D. Bates has given the Justice Department until Aug. 23 to appeal the decision.

To explain all of this, Sarah Pierce, policy analyst with the Migration Policy Institute, joined The Show.
