Suprise City Councilman Skip Hall Discusses Cellphone Driving Ban

Starting next month, it’ll be illegal to use your hand-held cellphone while driving in Surprise.

The Surprise City Council this week approved an ordinance allowing police to pull drivers over who are not using their devices in hands-free mode. Violators could be fined up to $250.

Surprise has now joined other Arizona cities and towns who’ve approved similar measures. Although Arizona has distracted driving laws on the books, the state only bans texting while driving for new drivers.

Surprise City Councilman Skip Hall sponsored the ordinance.
