ADOT Updating Pumps To Prevent Flooding

ADOT has spent about $3.5 million to update two water pumps, and more improvements are on the way.

The two new pumps, at 48th and Val Vista Drive on the U.S. 60 will be fully operational in the fall, according to ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel.

The agency will turn its sights to pumps along I-17 in North Phoenix next year.

“As funding is available we’re going to be modernizing various pump stations because some of them are very old but that's going to take some time,” Nintzel said.

During a monsoon storm last week, a pump station failed to stop flooding in Tempe because it was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of rain.
