Phoenix City Services May Soon Be Available Via Amazon's Alexa Devices

Lots of people use their smart speakers or other artificial intelligence assistants for help with all kinds of things. And soon, Phoenix residents will be able to add another utility to their lists.

Ricky Jimenez is part of the winning team from the spring Phoenix Hackathon, which developed an Amazon Alexa program that can help connect city residents with city services.

Jimenez works with Valore Partners, and recently stopped by The Show to talk about the program.

Dominic Papa, executive director of the Institute for Digital Progress — which puts on the Phoenix Hackathon — also joined The Show.

The new program should be ready for a pilot in a couple of months and there’s another Phoenix Hackathon coming up in the fall.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
