Bisbee Stops Fluoridating Water

The city of Bisbee in southeast Arizona is officially done fluoridating its water.

Bisbee joins Flagstaff and Tucson in not adding the chemical to its water supply, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

The city council unanimously approved the decision to remove fluoride earlier this year.

Council member Doug Dunn agreed that fluoride is beneficial in general, but not needed now with other ways of getting it, like through toothpaste. But at the meeting, he said he wants to put any misinformation to bed.

“I don’t in any way believe this company was dumping toxic waste in our water to get rid of it. These conspiracy theories irritate me to no end. I want to thank Arizona Water Company for having implemented our ordinance over the years.”

Fluoride strengthens teeth, according to public health officials, and Bisbee’s levels of it in the water are now below the federally recommended level.
