Wildfire Season Causes Damage To Ecosystem, Human Health

The most destructive wildfire in California history continues to burn. And as the wildfire season gets longer and longer, it’s not only trees and land that are affected.

The health of the ecosystem, and that of the humans and animals who live nearby, is also impacted. That can range from eye irritation to asthma to a worsening of chronic heart and lung diseases.

Wayne Cascio, director of the National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory at the EPA, joined The Show talk more about the health effects of wildfires.

Steve Goldstein was a host at KJZZ from 1997 to 2022.
