2 Dead In Small Plane Crash Near Camp Verde

Two people are dead following the crash of a small home-built plane in north-central Arizona. Dwight Develyn is with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO).

He said YCSO received a call from a family member Saturday evening, saying the plane was overdue and the pilot couldn’t be reached.

“Local aircraft towers had no record of this plane in the air," Develyn said. "Eventually, deputies obtained GPS coordinates from a cell phone belonging to one of the occupants. A DPS ranger crew was launched and, aided by the GPS coordinates, located the plane around 8:30 p.m."

Develyn said the wreckage was found in rugged terrain southeast of Montezuma Castle in Camp Verde. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
