1 Dies After Plane Crashes Into North Phoenix Intersection

An ominous start to the morning for commuters in north Phoenix as an aerobatic plane came crashing down during rush hour traffic.

The intersection at 7th Street and Deer Valley Road closed just before 7:00a a.m. on Monday after a homemade aircraft carrying two people crashed into ongoing traffic.

One person inside the plane was killed, the other injured and hospitalized.

The plane also hit drivers at the intersection.

“Two other vehicles were involved. The extent of that damage of the vehicles is substantial but there are no injuries to those people,” said Mercedes Fortune with Phoenix police.

It was unclear whether the pilot or the passenger died. The survivor inside the plane was in critical condition.

Fortune warned that the area will remain closed for several hours as they investigate and Federal Aviation Administrators also have a chance to collect data from the crash site.
