Campus Fire Closes Scottsdale School, Investigators Checking If Suspicious

School was out Wednesday for several hundred students who attend Navajo Elementary School in Scottsdale.

Battalion Fire Chief Adam Hoster with Scottsdale Fire said the school caught fire around 2:30 Wednesday morning.

Crews managed to contain the fire quickly, but Hoster said the storage area was destroyed and nearby areas were damaged.

"There was smoke damage to some classrooms, along with some water damage that went down that building hallway," Hoster explained.

He estimated it might take a few days to restore the area, "So, it's too early to tell when that building can open back up again."

In a statement, Scottsdale Unified School District said it is evaluating whether classes can be temporarily moved to another property and will notify parents when it is safe to return to Navajo.

Arson investigators are also determining whether it was an electrical or man made fire.
