Vast Majority Of Migrants In Mexico Were Fleeing Honduras

A majority of migrants traveling through Mexico last year were fleeing Honduras. That's according to a new report from an association of 23 migrant shelters in Mexico.

The report from the Network for the Defense of Migrants says more than two-thirds of migrants were from Honduras. Maria Jose Lazcano is one of the authors of the report. She says migrants were likely fleeing gang violence or political turmoil.

"The violence continues in their birth countries, and we haven't been taking the right measures to make the conditions in their birth countries better," Lazcano said.

The report also says that almost half of migrant minors were traveling alone or with the help of a smuggler.
