The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced more teens are up to date on their HPV vaccinations.
The agency said the number of young people who started and finished the vaccine series that protects against certain cancers, is up 5 percentage points from 2016 to 2017.
Last year, nearly 66 percent of adolescents, ages 13 to 17, got their first dose of the HPV vaccine, and nearly 49 percent completed the series, which now consists of two shots. Despite the increase, the CDC says there’s room for improvement, as fewer adolescents in rural areas are getting the HPV vaccine compared to youth in urban areas.
The CDC recommends the HPV vaccine for all preteen girls and boys.
