A global engineering firm announces plans to bring hundreds of jobs to Tucson.
Axiscades provides engineering services across Asia Pacific, Europe and the United States. The company, headquartered in Bangalore, India, will have an office in downtown Tucson, not far from where a key customer — Caterpillar — will open its Surface, Mining and Technology Division.
Axiscades serves heavy equipment, mining, and other industries.
In a prepared statement, Mritunjay Singh, global CEO and executive director, said, “The entire region is strong not only in mining but also other key AXISCADES strategic growth areas such as aerospace, defense and healthcare.”
The company said it plans to create 320 jobs over the next five years, primarily in mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as finance, research and development, human resources, sales and project management.
“This is another important benefit to Caterpillar’s coming to Tucson; one of its major vendors is moving here, too,” Mayor Jonathan Rothschild said in a statement.
Axiscades will be able to receive no-cost talent acquisition services through the Arizona Department of Commerce. The Navigator Program provides workforce assistance to companies moving to or expanding in Arizona which include strategic partnerships, skill assessment and talent screenings, federal training grants, and other services.
Axiscades may also be eligible for a job training grant that covers up to 75 percent of costs, up to $5,000 per employee. The Commerce Department says Axiscades has not submitted an application at this time.
