Sen. John McCain Championed Campaign Finance Reform

In 2002, Sen. John McCain and Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold finally got their campaign finance reform bill approved — they’d been working on it for a few years.

That bill is why candidates now say they approved their ads at the end of them, it also banned large corporate contributions to party committees.

Some of the law’s teeth, though, have been removed or dulled over the years, through legal challenges and Federal Election Commission decisions.

Stephen Spaulding, chief of strategy and an attorney with Common Cause, joined The Show to talk about Sen. McCain’s legacy in the area of campaign finance reform.
