Arizona. Gov Doug Ducey is expected to announce a replacement for Sen. John McCain’s Senate seat soon.
Ducey has said he would wait until after McCain’s funeral to appoint the late senator’s replacement.
This comes at a crucial time for Ducey, who is up for re-election, and the Republican Party, which hopes to get Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh confirmed.
That’s according to Northern Arizona University politics professor Fred Solop.

“I see this as a very crucial moment in Arizona’s history and it’s going to have significant implications nationally,” Solop said.
Ducey’s choice will serve until a special election in 2020.
Solop says there’s a long list to choose from, but suspects the person will be a conservative, non-controversial pick.
“He wants somebody who supports the Trump agenda, but someone who’s not too far to the right, so it’s a narrow tightrope you’re walking there,” he said.
Solop thinks possible contenders may include state Treasurer Eileen Klein, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and Ducey’s chief of staff, Kirk Adams.
