The U.S. Senate confirmed a new judge to the federal bench in Arizona.
The Senate confirmed Dominic Lanza, who is currently a federal prosecutor.
Lanza has prosecuted some storied cases in Arizona’s recent past. He was part of the legal team that took down backpage.com, a website accused by the federal government of being used for sex trafficking. And he formed part of the legal team that prosecuted Jared Lee Loughner, who shot and killed six people and injured 13 in a January 2011 mass shooting near Tucson.
Federal judges are appointed for life, serving until they retire or are removed for misconduct.
