On Saturday, a gigantic floating boom designed to corral plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean was launched from San Francisco Bay.
The goal of the pollution scooper, called the Ocean Cleanup system, is to rid the world’s oceans of plastic pollution.
The Ocean Cleanup is an ambitious undertaking, costing over $30 million and taking over five years to build. The next two weeks are a test for this project.
George Leonard, chief scientist for the Ocean Conservancy in Santa Cruz, joined The Show to talk about it. One of his areas of specialty is marine debris and plastic.
