ASU Using VR To Teach Biology Class

Arizona State University later this semester plans to roll out what it believes is the first official biology lab done in virtual reality.

It’ll be a cell biology course, with two more classes to come. Students working towards an online Bachelors of Science degree in biology will take the VR lab, which features a drone, named “Dr. One” who can answer questions and offer assistance along the way.

To understand how VR incorporates into the course, The Show talked to Amy Pate, manager of instructional design at the School of Life Sciences at ASU.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
