Former Valley Metro CEO Admits To Misusing Public Funds

The former CEO of Valley Metro plead guilty to a class five felony Monday. Stephen Banta has admitted to misusing the organization’s money.

Banta used his position at Valley Metro to pay more than $30,000 in personal travel and dining expenses. That’s according to a statement from Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich.

Of that amount, about $3,000 involved public money. Banta entered into a plea agreement for probation. The terms and conditions of the probation will be left to the court.

Banta’s sentencing is set for Nov. 7.
