The Attorney General's office shared a redacted letter it sent on August 21 to a Washington, DC law firm.
It asks investigators to research a major search engine company for potentially violating Arizona consumer fraud laws.
Attorney General Brnovich's office spokesperson Katie Conner would not name the targeted search engine company redacted in the letter, but in a statement, confirmed their investigation follows recent news investigations alleging that Google tracks consumers, even after they opt out of location services.
Google has insisted it has not falsely represented the way it stores and tracks its customer information.
Pending the investigation, Brnovich could seek up to $10,000 for each violation against Arizona consumers, and other states are expected to follow.
