National Public Lands Day is Saturday, Sept. 22. To celebrate, the Tonto National Forest and others in the state will offer a “fee-free” day.

Carrie Templin, with the Tonto National Forest, said fees will be waived at day-use sites, including picnic grounds, shorelines and boat launches.

“We hope people will enjoy the Tonto and spend some time and enjoy the outdoors and if they have any questions, they can go to the Tonto National Forest website and see all the sites that are available,” Templin said.

Other fees, like those for overnight camping at U.S. Forest Service developed campgrounds, will not be waived.
