The Arizona construction industry has added 900 jobs in the past month and over 15,000 in the past year, according to figures released Thursday by the Office of Economic Opportunity.
But it's not just the construction industry that is seeing an increase. The agency’s Doug Walls said that a rise in people's interest in home improvement has opened up jobs not only in the construction industry, but also garden centers, hardware stores and more.
"So growth within construction is not only positively impacting the construction industry, but it's having an impact on multiple industries around the Arizona economy,” Walls said.
The state’s unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in August, 1 percent above the national unemployment rate.
