Talking Stick Resort re-opened Monday after a monsoon in mid-August caused severe flooding, forcing the resort to shut down.
Spokesman Ramone Martinez said the decision was made to stay closed longer than was originally required to upgrade the property and make cosmetic improvements to the casino and rooms.
“We have all new terrazzo floors. We re-canvassed the blackjack tables. We have the new carpet here. We were able to clean the parking garages and re-stripe, so just upgrading all around — even new TVs in the hotel rooms,” he said.
The resort was able to transfer employees to another casino for work and employ some of them to make improvements so they wouldn’t lose wages as a result of a longer-than-expected closure.
