Finding common ground on immigration reform at the federal level has been difficult — at least when it comes to actually firming up solutions.
Where do DACA recipients fit in? Does there need to be a reinforced border wall — like President Donald Trump wants — or should border security focus more on increased technology? Should undocumented immigrants have more guest worker opportunities or even a path to citizenship?
In his new book, " Melting Pot or Civil War: A Son of Immigrants Makes the Case Against Open Borders," Reihan Salam writes about many of those questions. His conclusion is that, even though he’s the son of Bangladeshi immigrants, an open immigration system in the United States is a formula that will negatively affect national unity.
