In the run up to the November election voters' mailboxes are filling up with election guide pamphlets. Unlike the other propositions that ask for a simple approval of a proposed law, Prop 305 is trickier to follow.
It will decide whether a school voucher expansion, already passed by lawmakers in 2017, should go into effect, allowing up to 30,000 children by 2022 to use the funds for attending non-traditional public schools.
Opponents blocked the law with a referendum and placed it on the ballot for voters to decide whether public school funding should be used to pay for private school scholarships.
However, Prop 305, requires close inspection. Voters wanting to expand vouchers as lawmakers had intended, will check "yes." Voters who oppose expanding vouchers must vote "no."
In other words, "yes" puts the law in play, while a "no" vote stops the expansion.
