If you’re a regular Facebook user, you may have received a message on the site saying an existing Facebook friend received a friend request from you. But, it's a hoax.
The copy and pasted message claims that other users are cloning your account and tells people to forward it to all of their friends.
Users were recently prompted by Facebook to re-login to their accounts, even if their passwords had been saved on their browser or mobile app.
Ken Colburn with Data Doctors said the message is a hoax based on a recent Facebook security breach.
"What Facebook identified was that there was an exploit that could be used on up to 90 million people on a tool that’s already been disabled," Colburn said. "So it was just a precautionary measure to alert everybody and to require people to log back in."
Colburn said if you want to be sure that your account hasn’t been cloned, you can search for yourself and look for an account with the same photo but with few or no posts.
