A little more than halfway into October and more than five inches of rain has fallen on Phoenix. That's the wettest on record for this month according to the National Weather Service.
It's causing road hazards on Valley streets and keeping ADOT crews equally busy repairing damaged highways.
"They're working at night when they can and also during the day," said ADOT spokesman Peter Corbett, "which is causing some headaches because we have to do some short closures along the highway."
As drivers headed north, the number of potholes increased where the rain turned to snow.
ADOT is relying on the public to help spot those hazards as they travel along Arizona roads.
"They can contact us and make us aware," Corbett said. "Obviously we have people out that are checking on that and trying to get them filled."
To avoid construction zones, ADOT recommends checking for route closures and delays through its website.
