Ancient Child 'Vampire Grave' Discovered In Italy

A team of archaeologists — including members from the University of Arizona — recently discovered the remains of a 10-year-old at an ancient burial site in Italy. And the materials found nearby, along with evidence found on the child, indicate residents took action to keep the child from returning from the dead and spreading malaria.

That evidence has led the archaeologists to place it under the category of "vampire burial."

The Show spoke with one member of the team: University of Arizona doctoral student Jordan Wilson, who actually discovered the skeleton.

We started by asking her whether the cemetery in Italy is actually known as the "cemetery of the babies" and why.
