Why Do We Use Movie Quotes To Communicate?

It appears “fetch” has finally happened.

On Oct. 3 — which is “Mean Girls” Day — Tina Fey, who wrote the movie, attended a ceremony in New York to rename a portion of 52nd Street "W. Fetch Street."

This got Julia Himberg wondering, why is it that we use movie quotes to communicate?

Himberg, a ASU film professor, talked about it recently with ASU NOW — and it's gotten a lot of attention. She thinks that’s because this is a particular moment in our country where we all need to feel like we have a little more in common.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been modified to correct the spelling of Julia Himberg's name.
