Election Day in Arizona included few surprises. A few races — including the nationally-watched U.S. Senate races between Democrat Kyrsten Sinema and Republican Marthy McSally — remains too close to call, and we may not know the official outcome until the end of this week.
Two GOP incumbents who won comfortably were Gov. Doug Ducey and Attorney General Mark Brnovich. Brnovich defeated Democrat January Contreras.
Gov. Ducey defeated David Garcia by more than 17 points in coasting to reelection. In his concession speech, Garcia thanked educators for their support.
One that the Associated Press has called is the race for Secretary of State — even though Democrat Katie Hobbs has insisted it’s not over.
At the time of broadcast, the numbers show her opponent, Steve Gaynor, with a 42,000 vote lead. He has 51.3 percent of the vote, while Hobbs has 48.7 percent.
One Democrat who is now a Congressman-elect in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District is former Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, who easily defeated Republican Steve Ferrara by 19 points.
