A panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with an earlier decision that President Donald Trump doesn’t have the authority to eliminate the Delayed Action for Childhood Arrivals program or DACA.
Muzaffar Chizti is an attorney with the Migration Policy Institute, a Washington, D.C. based think tank.
"The more than 700,000 young immigrants who are beneficiaries of the DACA program can take comfort in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision today," he said.
But he noted the administration had already asked the Supreme Court to hear its case last week before the 9th Circuit panel made its decision.
The panel wrote that DACA recipients are "blameless and economically productive young people," and that that leaves the government to pursue other law enforcement priorities.
