Democrat Sandra Kennedy has secured a seat on the Arizona Corporation Commission. It will be Kennedy’s second time on the powerful public utilities commission.
She served from 2008 to 2012 and will be the sole democrat on the five person panel. She already has a big to-do list.
Kennedy said she intends to bring a new level of scrutiny to Arizona Public Service (APS), which includes signing a subpoena to open the utility’s books on its election spending.
“I think reality has set in and that the voters have spoken," Kennedy said. "They want the commissioners to act on their behalf. The people have stated they want to see how APS is spending their dollars."
Kennedy also plans to reopen last year's APS rate case that led to steep increases for some consumers. She’s calling on Commissioner Andy Tobin to step down because of alleged ethics violations.
