The development of a Desert Discovery Center in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve has been a contentious issue in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale voters last week overwhelmingly approved Proposition 420.

The measure requires a public vote for development projects inside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

It was spurred by the Desert Edge proposal — a controversial 47,000-square-foot education center that supporters argue would boost tourism and critics say isn’t appropriate for the preserve.

So, now that the city’s voters have spoken, The Show reached out to Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane to get his perspective on what’s next for the project.

He spoke to The Show to give us more on how the vote on Proposition 420 affects this development happening or not happening.
