Tempe Police Chief Addresses Officer Behavior On Training Trip

The Tempe Police Department is addressing allegations of improper officer behavior on a recent business trip.

An anonymous letter recently sent to news outlets and the Tempe City Council alleged that Tempe police officers went to a topless club while attending a training conference in Palm Springs in October.

Tempe Police Chief Sylvia Moir apologized at a press conference Thursday saying while their actions were not illegal, the officers had discredited the professional work of her department.

Moir said she believes three or four female officers were at a strip club for a brief amount of time saying one of them had apologized for their attendance. While Moir was at the training event she said she did not hear of the outing until she was presented the letter.

Moir said the department spends money responsibly and transparently and asked for trust from the community to resolve the situation.
