Younger Veterans Struggle To Own Homes In Phoenix

According to a  recent study, younger veterans in Arizona are struggling with housing affordability compared to older generations who served.

The study is based in part on census data collected by the University of Minnesota.

Igor Popov  is the chief economist for Apartment List, a housing market research website which conducted the study.

“We went back and essentially looked over 50 years of census data to see, ‘is this a story that young veterans have always struggled?’ And the answer was ‘no.’ From previous tours when veterans would come home, the policies in place were sort of enough to get them the advantage that we want them to have," Popov said.

Popov added only about 42 percent of post-9/11 veterans in the Phoenix metro region own homes as opposed to 84 percent of Korean War veterans for example.
