The American West has a lasting mystique of the cowboy, the border and the wide open spaces.
The West has been chronicled in every medium possible for the invisible pull it has on people around the world.
And it's in this spirit that author Josh Wheeler, a New Mexican native, wrote his collection of essays called "Acid West."
Wheeler, who is from Alamogordo, says he pulled from an entire arsenal of you-can't-make-this-up true stories from the state — which he says are really part of his identity.
