The head of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce is pushing back against President Trump’s threat to shut down the border to prevent asylum seekers from entering the U.S.
Chamber President and CEO Glenn Hamer said closing the border would be detrimental to Arizona’s economy.
“Mexico is far and away our largest trading partner. Also, in certain sectors, like tourism, our friends from Mexico spend over $7 million every day in Arizona restaurants, hotels and shops,” he said.
Hamer added border security is important, but it must be accomplished in a smart way that doesn’t jeopardize lawful commerce.
