The city-run Glen Lakes Golf Course in Glendale is likely to shut down after the council’s decision this week.
City staff flagged the golf course buildings as unsafe and deteriorating after inspections, leading to the course’s closure.
Since then, Glendale officials have heard public comment on whether to close Glen Lakes.
At the latest meeting, the City Council determined that it wouldn’t be feasible to continue operations.
Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers said at the meeting it was not an easy decision.
“This is very, very painful for all of us, nobody right now enjoys sitting up here I promise you, but we have to figure out a way to take a very bad situation today and try to make it as tolerable for all of you as possible.”
The course is marked to reopen, temporarily, with makeshift structures.
Forgoing any other changes, the plan is to sell part of the 9-hole course for development and then cancel the course management contract.
