Two Prescott city officials are calling for the resignation of Republican legislator Rep. David Stringer. This comes after  Stringer was recorded making racist comments.

Prescott’s mayor and vice mayor want Stringer to resign.

Stringer was recorded talking about  immigrants last month, saying European immigrants tend to blend in.

"That’s not the case with African-Americans and other racial groups because they don’t melt in," Stringer said.

Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli  said he doesn’t believe Stringer can effectively represent Prescott constituents. The mayor has called for the Prescott City Council to hold a special meeting on Tuesday.

“The discussion will be about whether or not to make a statement, a public statement in regard to these remarks that David Stringer made,” Mengarelli said. “So we’ll have that discussion with the council and then a possible vote, following that discussion about a statement.”
