University Of Arizona Receives Grant To Study Alzheimer's In Women

The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Innovation in Brain Science has received a grant to understand why more women than men have Alzheimer’s disease.

Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s are women, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Center for Innovation in Brain Science was one of seven institutions to receive a grant from the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, founded by Maria Shriver.

In a statement, the $100,000 grant will permit further exploration into the impact of hormone therapy on Alzheimer’s disease in women. Arizona is expected to see a 43 percent increase in Alzheimer’s disease by 2025.
