For some police departments across the country, there may be more to some of their crime statistics than it would appear.
A new investigation from ProPublica, Newsy and Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting finds some departments are routinely using a method of clearing rape cases that’s meant to be used for extraordinary circumstances.
It’s called "exceptional clearance."
